Director’s Message
Integrating Real-World Experience
with Academic Learning

Message from Your New Co-op Education Programme Director (September 2025)
Dear Students,
Warm greetings! I’m thrilled to step into this role and would like to begin by thanking Dr Wilton Fok for his efforts in launching the Co-op Programme in September 2024.
What makes Co-op different?
Unlike classroom learning, Co-op Education at HKU gives you the chance to spend 6 months or more in a full-time, paid role—working on real projects, collaborating with professionals, and putting your skills to the test in the workplace. It’s challenging, yes—but that’s where real growth happens. You’ll build confidence, sharpen key skills like communication and problem-solving, and gain clarity about your future career path.
Before you apply, ask yourself:
- Why Co-op? What skills or experiences do you want to gain? How do you want to present yourself when you graduate from HKU?
- Can you balance it? Think carefully about how to fit a 6-month work placement around your academic commitments (core courses, exchanges, etc).
- Ready to grow? This isn’t just about adding a line to your CV. You’ll adapt to new routines, tackle unfamiliar tasks, and uncover strengths (and areas to improve) you didn’t know you had.
We’re here to help…
The Co-op team is here to support you with applications, timelines, and workplace guidance. Feel free to drop by our office, check out the website, or email me directly if you’d like to chat one-on-one.
Looking forward to supporting your journey!
Best wishes,
Professor Samson Tse
