What is Co-op?

The Co-operative Education Programme is an immersive experiential learning opportunity through working full time in a professional setting.

The academic part of the programme is delivered through the course COOP3000. COOP3000 is:

  • An 18-credit course
  • Fulfilled in part by a full-time and paid work placement of least 7 months (1 semester and summer or two semesters)
  • No other credit-bearing courses can be taken simultaneously
  • Assessed through assignments by an Academic Supervisor, and by the Employer

There are three Rounds for Co-op placements in an academic year:

  1. Semester 2 (January to July, ie. Semester 2 + Summer)
  2. Summer (June to December, ie. Summer + Semester 1)
  3. Semester 1 (September/October to March/April, ie. Semester 1+2)*

*Students who select to do the Co-op programme in the Semester 1 Round will likely have to defer their graduation, and may opt to extend the placement term to one year.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students who are not in their first year or final year of study in their programme

Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above

Why study in the Co-op Programme?

There is no amount of classroom learning and courses that would fully prepare a student to enter the workforce and work in a real-world setting. The real world has no syllabus, no working only with your friends, and no final exam. Many unexpected, challenges will arise that will require your flexibility and adaptability to overcome them.

This workplace immersion will enable you to:

Develop critical thinking, communication, collaboration skills
Learn professionalism in a professional setting
Apply knowledge in real-life situations
Be mentored and expand your professional network
Earn while you learn
Explore your aspirations and possible future careers
