Assessments and evaluation

In our Co-op Programme, we employ diverse and interactive assessments to evaluate student performance and learning, focusing on specific professional and personal development aspects. This multifaceted evaluation framework is designed to ensure that students not only achieve their learning objectives but also gain practical and insightful experiences relevant to their career paths. The following describes each of the assessment components:

Interim Review Presentation

At the midpoint of their Co-op placement, students deliver a presentation detailing their initial experiences, the challenges they’ve faced, and the significant events that have shaped their journey. This session involves feedback from Co-op workplace mentors, academic advisors, and fellow cohort members, providing an essential checkpoint for student progress and integration.

Journal and Consultation Sessions

Students are required to maintain a regular journal, capturing their insights and challenges on the job. These entries are then discussed in monthly consultation sessions with academic advisors, allowing for a personalised review of their experiences and progress.

Industry Report

Students conduct comprehensive research on their respective industries, analysing key factors such as market trends, competitive environment, and strategic opportunities. This report helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Employer’s Evaluation

Direct feedback from employers is invaluable for aligning student development with industry expectations. At the end of the placement, a workplace mentor will complete an assessment of the students’ performance, focusing on their adaptability, professionalism, and skill application within their roles. The feedback will help students identify strengths and areas for future improvement.

Final Report

At the end of the work term, students compile a final report detailing their responsibilities, tasks completed, lessons learned, and overall impact. This reflective account serves as a critical tool for evaluating their comprehensive learning and development.

Final Presentation

This final showcase, through a reflective video presentation, succinctly encapsulates the student’s Co-op experience, highlighting their learnings and professional development. It offers an opportunity for students to reflect on and articulate the comprehensive value of their experiences. Through this structured approach, we ensure a thorough, fair, and meaningful evaluation of each student’s journey, providing them with a solid foundation of skills and experiences to advance in their chosen careers.
